Jewellery photos for Amazon, Etsy and Otto: the image requirements 2026

Which size, what background, how many pictures? The specifications of the three most important market places for jewellery in direct comparison, and how to cover all three with a shoot.

By Henry Buck · HB Photography, Berlin · As of: October 2026
In short:A square product images on white background on pure white background with 2,000 to 3,000 pixels, as JPG in sRGBin which the jewel is round 85 percent the area is filled, is a good starting point for Amazon, Etsy and Otto. I check the specific specifications of the platform and your product category in advance. Without text, logo or watermark. More views, on-model photos and lifestyle images are added as additional images.

Those who sell jewellery on marketplaces quickly notice: each platform has its own rules for product images. Amazon blocks offers with false main image, Etsy cuts preview images, and Otto rejects pictures with logo or text. In addition, small pieces with shiny surfaces with shiny surfaces appear particularly quickly blurred, too small or colourless wrong.

If you are planning the recordings for your assortment, you will find the process and the services at jewellery photography in Berlin.

Jewellery photography since 2020 for online shops and marketplaces: several thousand photographed jewels. In this guide you will find the specifications of Amazon, Etsy and Otto at a glance, the most common errors and a checklist for uploading.

Amazon: strict rules for the main image

Amazon is the strictest of the three marketplaces. A main image that violates the guidelines can cause your offer to be suppressed in search. For jewellery:

  • Pure white background: exactly RGB 255, 255, 255. A slightly grey or cream-coloured white, as it is quickly created when photographing, is not enough. This works reliably only with a clean product image on a white background.
  • About 85 percent image filling: A small ring in the middle of a large white surface appears tiny in the search. Cut the image narrowly.
  • Only what is sold: No jewellery box, no decoration, no flowers, no text, no logo, no watermark. An earring pair you show as a pair.
  • At least 1,000 pixels at the longest side, otherwise there is no zoom function. I recommend 2,000 to 3,000 pixels for jewellery so that customers can zoom in on the frame, the stones and the engraving.
  • Main image without model: The jewel stands alone in the picture. On-model photos are shown in the additional pictures.

In the Additional images is much more allowed: coloured backgrounds, on-model photos, lifestyle pictures and graphics with dimensions. Especially the custom graphic is worth it with jewellery, because the question "How big is the pendant really? How big is the jewellery really?

The full rules are listed in Seller Central under "Requirements for Product Images" and in the Style Guide of your category.

Etsy: the first photo decides

Etsy is more generous with backgrounds. A white product image on a white background is not prescribed, and especially with handmade jewellery quiet, bright lifestyle images often work very well as a first photo. What matters is:

  • Up to 20 photos and two videos per offer. Use the places: different views, photo on the model, product set, packaging and size comparison.
  • At least 2,000 pixels on the shortest side are recommended to keep the images sharp even on large screens and while zooming.
  • The preview image is tailored. In the search Etsy shows the first photo in a different format than on the offer page. If the jewel stands at the edge, it is half cut in the search. Place it in the middle with some air.
  • Uniform look: On Etsy, buyers often see your offers side by side. The same light and the same background make the shop look professional. One jewellery collection, one consistent visual style.
  • Video: 5 to 15 seconds, without sound. A pendant that rotates slowly shows the sparkle of the stones better than any photo.

Otto Market: clean, neutral, without advertising

Otto mentions in his public Technical documentation Image formats and dimensions. You can also check the complete specifications for your category in the partner area. For the preparation:

  • Bright, neutral background, for jewellery and accessories preferred optional on white.
  • No advertising in the picture: no logos, texts, prices, seals, frames, collages or watermarks. Only a logo that sits on the product itself is permitted, for example an engraving.
  • JPG or PNG in RGB colour space. CMYK files are not displayed correctly.
  • Product fills about 85 percent the surface, centered and fully visible.
  • Size: The technical documentation lists at least 500 × 1,000 pixels and at most 4,500 pixels per page. In addition, check the specifications of your category in the partner area.

Because Otto does not allow texts in the picture, measurements and material specifications belong there in the product description. A photo on the model shows the size nevertheless at a glance.

One shoot for all marketplaces

You don't need three separate shoots. If the images are correctly created from the beginning, each variant will be taken. So I plan marketplace assignments:

  1. Main image
Product images on white background on pure white, square, jewellery fills about 85%.
  2. More Views
Side, back, closure or ring band as product images on a white background.
  3. Product set
Chain, ring and earring together when they are sold as a set.
  4. On-model photo
Shows the real size on the ear, neck or hand.
  5. Lifestyle
Mood picture for Etsy, Instagram and your own shop.

Delivered as: JPG in sRGB with 2,000 to 3,000 pixels. Cut and export I adjust to the specific specifications of your marketplaces and your own shop. The 7 most common errors in jewellery photos on marketplaces

    1. White is not white

A photographed white background is almost always slightly grey. Amazon recognizes this. Only a real product image on a white background results in pure white.

    2. Jewellery too small in the picture

An ear stud on a large white surface can hardly be seen in the search list. Cut tight, about 85% filling.

    3. Wrong colour with gold

Yellow or pale gold lead to returns. Clean colour correction and the colour space sRGB are mandatory.

    4. Reflections and dust

Shiny surfaces show camera, space and every grain of dust. When zooming to 2,000 pixels everything is noticeable.

    5. Logo or text in the main picture

On Amazon and Otto a frequent reason for rejected or suppressed offers.

    6. No indication of size

Without a photo on the model or a measure, buyers misjudge the size and send the jewellery back.

    7. Inconsistency of images

Every photo with different light and angle makes the shop look restless and costs confidence.

    Frequently asked questions

What image size does Amazon need for jewellery?

Amazon requires at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side so that the zoom function becomes active. It is recommended that 1,600 pixels or more. For jewellery, 2,000 to 3,000 pixels are worth it, so that frames and stones remain sharp when zooming.

Does the main image at Amazon have a white background?

Yes. The main image must show the product on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), without text, logo, watermark or decoration. The piece of jewellery should fill about 85 percent of the picture area. On-model photos and lifestyle pictures belong in the additional images.

How many photos can I upload to Etsy?

Etsy now allows up to 20 photos and two videos per offer. Recommended are at least 2,000 pixels at the shortest side. The first photo is cut as a preview image in the search, so the jewel should stand in the middle with a little edge.

What image requirements does Otto Market have?

Otto's public technical documentation mentions JPG or PNG in RGB, at least 500 × 1,000 pixels and a maximum of 4,500 pixels per page. A product image on a white background or a bright, neutral background is recommended.

Can I use the same jewellery photos for Amazon, Etsy and Otto?

Often yes. A square product image on white background with 2,000 to 3,000 pixels, as JPG in sRGB, is a good starting point. Cut and export must match the specific specifications of the platform and product category. Etsy also pays for on-model photos and lifestyle images, and for Amazon a graphic with dimensions in the additional images.

Are on-model photos allowed on marketplaces?

Yes, as additional pictures. At Amazon and Otto, the main picture has to show the jewel alone. At Etsy, the first photo can also be a photo on the model. On-model photos show the real size and reduce returns according to experience.

What are the market-ready jewellery photos at HB Photography?

Product images on a white background cost a fixed €20 per image and view, including editing, with or without shadows and as JPG or PSD.
