For your first jewellery shoot, you need an overview of your jewels, the planned use of the pictures and a desired delivery date. From this you can define the necessary views, image types and file formats together. You do not have to bring a detailed photographic briefing yet.
If you are planning the recordings for your assortment, you will find the process and the services at jewellery photography in Berlin.
1. Decide how the images will be used
Start with the question where the photos should appear: on a product page, in a collection overview, in a printed catalogue or on social media. A narrow portrait format for an advertisement places different demands on the image section than a square shop image.
If possible, send a link to your shop or an example of the intended layout. If text should be above an image, the required free space is also included in the briefing. This way, the later cut is already taken into account during the recording.
2. Create a product list
Capture each piece of jewellery with its article number or unique name. Write down variations such as metal colour, stone colour and size separately. Mark which pieces together form a set and which are sold individually.
- Item number and short product name
- Variation and, where appropriate, dimensions
- Desired views and details
- Belonging to a set or collection
- Special features that should be visible on the photo
In the case of a ring, for example, this can be the lateral version, the back of a pendant or a strap of the closure. The list later serves as the basis for the file naming and image control.
3. Select image types and views
Product cutouts show the individual jewel on a quiet background. On-model photos complement the impression of size and seat. Lifestyle photos put the product in a creative context. Not every piece automatically needs every image type.
Distinguishing between quantity and number of images: A ring with front view, side view and detail image results in three images. A clear recording list facilitates the calculation. Comparison of image types.
4. Show the desired style
Existing images of your brand help in the coordination. Describe what is important: the bright background, the soft shadows, the alignment of a chain or a certain cutout. Also examples that do not match your brand can facilitate the decision.
For a coherent series, these decisions should be recorded in writing. uniform image style of a jewellery collection shows which information is helpful.
